Our mission at Threshold & Gate
A division of Linda Smith Davis' New England Fine Living, LLC.
Inspired by New England's rich history, refined classic style, and slow-paced lifestyle my hopes are to inspire you to create your own version of fine living at home.
Whether it's a treasure from the past or a new item from today, the beautiful collections I've curated will help you tell a story about your life and how you enjoy your own version of fine living, without saying a single word. If I wouldn't use a product myself, gift to a family member, or give to a friend, you won't see it here as one of our special offerings.
Whether it's here, my blog, or my YouTube channel (New England Fine Living), my hopes are to help you find your own version of Fine Living, no matter how simple or grand that may be, no matter where you live.

What is the Grand Union Design Style all about?
This design style is not unique to some, but putting a name to the style was difficult to describe, so I sat with paper and pen in and and wrote down what I like to think about and incorporate into the homes of my design clients and my own home. While writing, I looked out of my dining room window and saw our Grand Union flag gently blowing in the wind. It was then it dawned on me; over the course of 30 years as a designer and shop owner I have been decorating and selling items that were a grand union of items that might have been found in New England's homes, inns, and taverns back when the Grand Union flag was designed. My design aesthetic is also a grand union of family heirlooms, pre-loved items that were found out and about, with very few new items blended into the mix.
In a nutshell: The Grand Union Style is a distinctive interior design style that is focused on relaxed yet refined interiors inspired by New England's history. This design style showcases the rich heritage, design styles, and items one might have found in New England's historic homes, inns, and taverns, while incorporating design influences and products from the original 13 colonies, the British Isles and Western Europe. The Grand Union style is also a thoughtful curated blend " or a grand union" of family heirlooms, found pre-loved items, and a few new items that work together seamlessly. This style evokes old-world charm, timeless relaxed elegance, family heritage, yet offers modern comfort.
A home decorated in that Grand Union style is welcoming, approachable, and meant to be enjoyed by family and friends vs a home full of museum quality items that have a don't touch or don't use feel.
